Every once in a while, I learn something that’s so cool, that it deserves its own blog post. I know a lot about Microsoft  Word. Like…a LOT. But my husband (who can out-geek me ANY day) was doing some Word training the other day on Lynda.com, and told me about this thing that I just thought was, well…cool. 🙂

So, this little Microsoft Word trick is basically useful for filling pages with random text (for instance – if you do document templates or need to play with formatting or something like that). It is also useful for impressing your techy friends at parties.

In Microsoft Word, try these three things:

=lorem(7,3)

This will create 3 paragraphs, 7 sentences each with the Lorem Ipsum text.

=rand(7,3)

This will create 3 paragraphs, 7 sentences each with random text from the Microsoft Word “help” file.

=rand.old(7,3)

This will create 3 paragraphs, 7 sentences each with the old typewriter test: “The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.”

You can also try omitting instructions between the parentheses.
